Splits — Privacy Policy

Splits is a running-analytics app for iPhone made by Seb Olsen. It is built around one principle: your training data is analysed on your device and stays on your device. Splits has no accounts, no sign-up, and no server that stores your personal data.
What Splits reads
With your permission, Splits reads the following from Apple Health:
- Running workouts (distance, time, pace, route, elevation)
- Heart rate recorded during workouts
- Resting heart rate, heart-rate variability (HRV), VO2max
- Sleep data
Splits never writes anything to Apple Health, and your Health data is never uploaded anywhere. Every chart, insight, classification, and training link Splits shows you is computed by the app, on your iPhone. If you delete the app, that analysis is gone with it.
What leaves your device — and why
A few narrow things do involve a network request:
- Weather lookups (Apple WeatherKit). To show conditions for a run and learn your personal heat sensitivity, Splits asks Apple's WeatherKit for the weather at a run's start location and date, and for forecasts. These requests go to Apple under their privacy policy (www.apple.com/legal/privacy). Splits sends only the coordinate and time needed for the lookup — never your identity or Health data.
- Purchases (RevenueCat). Subscriptions and the lifetime unlock are processed by Apple. Splits uses RevenueCat to validate purchases and manage entitlements. RevenueCat receives purchase receipt information and a random, anonymous app-generated identifier — not your name, email, or any Health data. - Anonymous usage analytics (TelemetryDeck). To understand which features are used and whether the app is working (for example "a paywall was shown", "an import completed"), Splits sends anonymised, aggregated signals to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service that does not track individual users. No Health data, no locations, no personal identifiers. See TelemetryDeck's privacy policy at www.telemetrydeck.com/privacy.
- Install attribution (Apple). Splits uses Apple's AdServices framework so Apple can tell us, in aggregate, whether an install came from an App Store ad. This involves no personal or Health data.
That's the complete list. There are no third-party ad networks, no data brokers, and no selling or sharing of your data with anyone, ever.
Photos and sharing
If you create a share card from a run photo, the image is composed on your device. Splits only accesses photos you explicitly pick, and nothing is shared until you choose to share it. What you share, and where, is entirely up to you.
Notifications
If you enable notifications, scheduling happens locally on your device. Splits has no push server.
Your choices
- You can revoke Health access at any time in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Health.
- You can delete all app data by deleting the app; there is no server-side copy to request or erase.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store account settings.
Children
Splits is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone. It has a 13+ App Store rating because it contains nothing objectionable — but it's a tool for runners with a training history.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top.
